Mist of Solitude
Steam rising through Manhattan’s streets is one of the city’s most familiar sights, but to me it always brings the industrial past close to the surface. I photographed this winter scene in Midtown as a dense cloud overtook the street. Buildings, signs, and traffic began to disappear, and for a moment the modern city seemed strangely displaced in time.
